Category: Performance Events ¤ Author: Gary Wilkes ¤ Title: Training (or Retraining) the Teeter ¤ Stage 1: Try starting with a square piece of 3/4" plywood, the length of the dog -- 28-32". Cover the top with carpet, for solid footing. Get her to play "pause box" with it -- lots. Also, get her to cross it to get a ball, in other words, make it a piece of furniture. After she is very comfortable with it, take a small section of 1/2" copper tubing or galvanized pipe nipple about 1 1/2" long, and thread some 1/8" braided nylon cord through it. Use the cord and make a cross around the board, as if you were using a ribbon to wrap a phonograph album -- with the section of pipe on the bottom/bare side. This allows the pipe section to move, side to side, and roll a little each way....now go back to playing with her and get her comfortable with the board when it is slightly elevated and a teency bit tippy. After the pipe section, take a sock and put a golf ball in it. Secure the sock to the back of the board -- heavy staples will work for awhile. Same process. Let her do it as slowly as she wants to. Let me know when this is working and I'll send you Stage 2: Good luck, Gary Wilkes
